MAJUMDAR donates 1% of their total income to
Saewak for helping underpriviliged women and children

The Society for Awareness of Environment, Women & Children is actively involved in imparting certain specialised skills to young school drop-outs of both genders, as well as to women living below the poverty line. In this process we are attempting to promote skills skills that have a direct effect on the protection of our environment and utilisation of natural resources.

Objectives
Our primary objective is to enable these target groups to raise the standard of living by making them economically self-sufficient. Besides addressing the problems of poverty and sub-standard living conditions, we also hope in our own way yo help alleviate the corressponding socio-political problems arising out of economic deprivation.

Training Methodology and Aims
An exhaustive survey on random basis has already been undertaken by us and Saewac has already identified the areas in which training of the target groups would have positive and long-term benefits for them.

In the first phase of training Saewac was able to accomodate only 30% of the total applicants due to shortage of funds. In the second phase, besides mechanical and specialised skills such as motor vehicle maintainee, driving, cutting and tailoring we would like to emphasise on envelope and paper bag making skills. This is a very conscious decision to contribute to the awareness for environmental preservation and to this end Saewac has started dialogues with various supermarkets and retailers for substituting plastic carry-bags with paper ones amde by Saewac proteges; in this way we at SAEWAC also hope to encourage self-employment and entrepreneurship.

As with earlier programme so also with the present one we are confident that we can successfully find gainful employment for all the trainees.
